THE Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera is currently monitoring four persons under investigation (PUI) for the possible infection of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Doctor Amelita Pangilinan, director of DOH–CAR said of the four PUIs, three came from Baguio while one came from Abra.

Since the start of monitoring in January, 32 PUIs were recorded by DOH-CAR with majority discharged and have improved health condition.

“Cordillera remains Covid – 19 free and we are hoping to remain as is. The four persons under investigation has a history of travel in the places we are monitoring that has positive Covid cases and that have manifested respiratory symptoms like cough, sore throat, fever, colds. They were admitted and underwent oral pharyngeal swab for testing that have been sent to RITM which we are still awaiting for the results,” Pangilinan said.

DOH-CAR are also closely monitoring the contacts of the four PUIs as proactive measure in case they tested positive for Covid-19.

“We want to emphasize to the public that the precautionary measure that we need to do to guard us from this virus is not rocket science but the practice of basic hygiene. We always remind the public to practice proper hand washing, the use of alcohol and sanitizers, and to remind the public that if you are sick, stay at home and advice your supervisors of your present health situation aside from practicing social distancing and proper cough etiquette,” Pangilinan said.

DOH–CAR clarified contrary to misinformation on Covid-19, transmission of the virus is through droplet from an infected person and not air born.

“Our data would show that 80% percent exhibited mild symptoms so they become well and stable and join the mainstream of society. The remaining 20 percent is the more serious, guarded and are in critical situation which are commonly the senior citizens having other sickness or considered as comorbidity or the simultaneous presence of two chronic diseases or conditions in a patient with these patients having a lower level or resistance,” Pangilinan added.
