3 NPA rebels surrender

THREE New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered brought about by pressure of continuous offensive against them in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the military said Wednesday, March 11.

Major General Generoso Ponio, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, said the three NPA rebels surrendered Monday, March 9, to the Army’s 97th Infantry Battalion (IB) in the village of Poblacion, Leon Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte.

Ponio identified them as Fernan Micasia, a team leader; and Teng Alom and Ronie Tuburan, both team members, of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.

He said the three NPA surrenderers revealed that they decided to surrender because of the adversities they experienced while eluding the intensified offensives of the government forces.

He said they were placed undergoing custodial debriefing at headquarters of the 97th IB.

The three NPA surrenderers will be enrolled in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) to assist them in their reintegration. (SunStar Zamboanga)
