LGUs can now use 'vulnerability assessment'

A VULNERABILITY reassessment under the geohazard mapping will now be used by local government units in their risk disaster management planning.

Engr. Al Berador, chief of Geosciences Division of Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Central Visayas, bared this during the Kapihan sa PIA on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

“What we do in vulnerability and reassessment, daghan ni sya'g phases pero this phase karon, atong output ani is kaning risk exposure map where ang mapa mag-describe siya og asa ning areas. We initially identify three elements,” he said.

In 132 cities and municipalities in Central Visayas, around 50 percent are already covered by the vulnerability and reassessment of the geohazard mapping, Berador said.

The said three elements are roads and bridges, population, and building footprints.

The vulnerability reassessment will update the "1 is to 10,000" scale to combine the three elements to come up risk exposure maps.

He added that they also have another program, which is the subsidies mapping, where they will conduct mapping to ground a subsidence, sink hole and possible ground collapses.

They also have an information education campaign, a workshop type campaign wherein they will discuss the uses of the geohazard maps. (JCT)
