Gingoog suspends classes in all levels due to Covid-1

GINGOOG City Mayor Erick Cañosa ordered Thursday, March 12, the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private schools and colleges, starting noon Friday, March 13, due to the threat posed by coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The Executive Order 17, dated March 12, directed the Department of Education-Gingoog City Division and the school administrators for private schools and colleges to accelerate the remainder of the school year 2019-2020 and to suspend the classes in all levels until further notice.

The school heads are given the discretion to formulate strategies for the completion of the remaining academic requirements in view of the suspension of classes.

All school officials and teachers are ordered to implement measures that will observe social distancing among students while they are inside the school premises or school-affiliated activities during the effectivity of the executive order.

The students, on the other hand, are encouraged to stay at home and to avoid going to crowded places while classes are suspended.

Cañosa also ordered all school heads and officials, teachers and the parents-teachers association (PTA) to conduct disinfection procedures to their respective schools during the period of class suspension to eliminate the possible spread of Covid-19.

On Wednesday, March 11, the City Government issued a guidelines for the prevention of the new coronavirus.

All local government sanctioned activities such as Lakbay Aral, Halad Pangalagad, flag retreats are cancelled until the declaration of national state of public health emergency is lifted.

All foreign travels of local government officials, employees and barangay officials for leisure or vacation are also cancelled.

Government officials, employees, village officials, meanwhile, are directed to clean and disinfect their offices.

The City Government urged the public not to panic, avoid crowded places and avoid unnecessary travels outside the city.
