CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella has suspended classes in all levels, both public and private schools, in Cebu City starting March 16 to March 28, 2020 as precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Labella made the announcement after a consultative meeting with various government agencies on Friday, March 13.

Labella mandated all the schools to implement distance learning, which means schools must provide homework and online classes to students.

“Educational institutions are mandated to implement distance learning and provide home assignments and projects to all students to continue the fulfillment of their educational requirements,” he said.

He added that extension of the suspension will continually assessed as the necessity arises.

Labella also clarified Friday that there is no lockdown in Cebu City yet, but he strongly discouraged residents to travel outside Cebu.

He also asked those who are planning to travel to Cebu City to postpone their visit until the state of public health emergency, declared by President Rodrigo Duterte last March 8, is lifted or withdrawn.

The mayor also announced that the Cebu City Government will no longer hold flag ceremonies every Monday. (JJL)
