DTI warns online sellers vs overpricing of medical products

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has issued a warning against online sellers who take advantage of the national health situation to mark up their products.

This came after several netizens complained about the "unreasonable overpricing" of disinfectant alcohol and facemasks in the online market since the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has risen in the country.

According to DTI, the suggested retail price of ethyl alcohol 70 percent solution is at P17 to P74.25 for 60ml up to 500ml, while N95 grade of face masks starts at P45 to P105, and disposable face masks is at P3 to P12.

DTI warned online sellers who are proven to be selling medical supplies beyond the price ceiling of the charges they may face.

Agents of the Food and Drug Administration Inspection and Regulatory Enforcement Unit are tasked to conduct regular monitoring to apprehend violating individuals.
