Interactive learning with BFP

THE type of learning which goes beyond the classroom to teach the young helps educators to be easily understood. This system also goes for important topics such as fire prevention and awareness.

Selected students from private and public schools in Davao City experienced interactive lessons with the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) Davao Region on March 7, 2020 at SM City Davao in line with the Fire Prevention Awareness Month.

Children braved the height, tried rappelling with the help of a special rescue unit firefighter guiding them. Others tried the basic lifesaving and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with BFPs emergency medical services during the Fire Square Awareness Program.

Participants were also taught of the proper way of using a fire extinguisher and how to properly point the nozzle.

The students were also equipped of the basic knowledge should an earthquake happen. They were taught the duck, cover, and hold procedure.

Firefighters also let the students roll on the ground with the stop, drop, and roll procedure in one of the learning stations inside the activity area.

Top-of-the-line equipment were also displayed by the BFP while they explained its capabilities and its importance to the operations.

Davao City Fire Office head, Chief Inspector Alex Pamaybay said the bureau responds to all kinds of emergency, not only during a fire incident.

He added fire awareness and prevention starts at home as he encourages the participants and their parents to keep their homes clean. He also advised everyone to always check their electrical wirings to avoid overloading.

BFP highlights the importance of being always prepared and equipping the young ones of the knowledge should an emergency incident arise.
