“If I have to, I can do anything, I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman”. - Helen Reddy

There is no better way of celebrating women’s month through an art exhibit entitled “Bei-ei” (Being Her). More than 30 women artists participated in this meaningful exhibit of womanhood at the Victor Oteyza Community Arts Space (Vocas) March 8 here in Baguio. We see the many faces of a woman of “being herself - a mother, daughter, lola, carer, creator, healer, fighter, heroine, freethinker, or a queen”. It is a reminder of the women’s strength, and her various roles and responsibilities in the society, community and family.

In this time of uncertainty and chaos, some artists have visualized women to be invincible, to be warriors, and to be gatekeepers of nature.

Katrin and Lissa de Guia, family of National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik, led the occasion. Inspiration and insight were shared by Irene Carantes (Social Worker, Nurse Consultant and Educator) and Leslie Dulfo, JD, MPA (Gender and Development Practitioner, Mental Health Advocate and also of Keep Going Baguio).

Special guests were Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda and Chairperson, Council for Baguio Creative City (CBCC) and Baguio Arts and Crafts Collective, Inc. (BACCI) President Adelaida Lim. The curator of the “Bei-ei” (Being Her) exhibit is Fatima Erasmo.

The participating artists are Dumay Solinggay, Ma. Belen Macawili, Malaya and Marj Olivete, Dana Mercado, Mia Magdalena, Marie Balangue, Fatima Erasmo, Jessica Fay, Nona Garcia, Marlyn Bulayo, Kora Albano, Joyce Mallare, Catherine Saranglao, Bahare Kerdar, Solana Lim, China Valdez, Maela Jose, Jen Lorenzo, Kelly Ramos, Danielle Florendo, Marissa Romero, Sheela Tabuno, Marge de Gomez, Raisa and Laurice Pocais, Joanne Siadto, Irene Carantes, Cynthia Dalisdis, Ella Pinder, Sensi Garcia, Sakura Alangui and Freya Jadormio.
