Celebrating St. Patrick's Day At Home

St. Patrick’s Day is observed every March 17. The traditional religious feast day of Ireland’s patron saint has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture in various parts of the globe. Parades, dancing, drinking and all things green are all part of it, and you don’t have to be Irish to get to partake in the merrymaking.

In light of coronavirus containment efforts, some people prefer staying in to braving crowded areas. Why not host your own intimate St. Paddy’s Day gathering with just your nearest and dearest? This holiday is a perfect excuse to have fun with your local leprechauns, after all. Here are some simple ideas to consider.

Party Invites

Send out themed e-vites to set the mood early on. There are a ton of downloadable templates online. Just make sure to include all the important details such as the date, time, address and dress code (if any). Guests will be more than happy to RSVP when they see the cute invites in their inbox.

Decor

Give your space some Irish pub feel by using wallpapers on one side of the room where guests can cozy up with a drink in hand. You can also go all out and festoon your home with green, white and gold utensils, balloons, lights, confetti and shamrock-themed plates and cups.

Dress Code

Ask guests to wear green. If they can, go for a leprechaun or shamrock-inspired look. Men can layer a green suit over a white tee or dress shirt and finish the look with a green hat and a green bow tie. Ladies can don the same ensemble or wear a skirt instead of pants and complete the look with heels.

Activities

Organize drinking games such as your own version of a pub crawl, encourage everyone to sing along to the music and maybe host a treasure hunt and a contest to see who can do an Irish impression best.

Food

You can do a potluck party wherein guests can bring Irish-inspired appetizers, mains or desserts. If you’re shouldering everything, go for traditional fare such as Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage, Irish beef stew, potatoes, shamrock-shaped cookies and Irish cream cake.

Drinks

Beer and whisky should abound but you should offer other libations and even dessert drinks like a Guiness float. Irish mojito and Irish coffee will also be appreciated by those who are not big beer drinkers.
