Misa Pasasalamat

UPHOLDING the values of discipline, integrity, and competence were highlighted by Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio to the Dabawenyos as the city marks another year as a strong and resilient city.

On March 1, the celebration of 83rd Araw ng Davao formally opened with the Misa Pasasalamat at San Pedro Cathedral officiated by Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Archbishop Romulo Valles.

The City Mayor graced the mass, which was also attended by the different department heads and city hall employees.

“As we celebrate the 83rd anniversary of the city’s foundation, let us pay tribute to our ancestors and forefathers - Dabawenyos who, by their sacrifices and hard work, made Davao the city it is today. Let us honor their contributions by remaining united and resilient in facing whatever tomorrow may bring,” the mayor said.

This year’s celebration has been dampened due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19). This led to the cancellation of major activities as a precautionary measure. But this did not stop the city to enjoy and feel the festivity.

The city mayor inculcate in the minds of the Dabawenyos to unite and stand strong. While the city is enjoying its progress, Duterte-Carpio reminded the citizens to look at the past and pay tribute to the people who have made a significant contribution to the city.

“Guided by the values of discipline, integrity, and competence, let us all do our part to create a Davao City that is prepared for the challenges of the future, attuned to the needs present, and anchored on the values and traditions of our diverse cultures,” Duterte-Carpio said.

For the month-long celebration, activities were trimmed down to four which include the Misa Pasasalamat; Araw ng Dabaw Light Show or the 3D Light Show at the city hall; Davaoeno Ako, a storytelling of the history of Davao in various schools; and Lantaw Dabawenyo, a wall art competition showcasing the positive spirit of the Dabawenyos at Sta. Ana Elementary School.
