Thoughts in the time of Covid-19

SO HERE we are, in the time of crisis, in different levels of panic all due to an unseen enemy that has managed to successfully invade the whole globe. What now? Whether the frenzy over the Covid-19 virus is media-hyped or not, it has undeniable wreaked havoc in all our lives.

All walks of life, all ages, all races. All affected. Don’t get me wrong though. I know we will overcome this. But we are going through the motions of trying to find our way and to regain our footing.

Thus, is it with utmost importance that we comply with the available guidelines, wherever we are. Let us be responsible citizens and help to fight control, if not beat, this global scourge that has befallen us.

Stay healthy. Keep fit. Hydrate, take your vitamins. If you have any chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes or the like, please make sure you take your medications to keep your immune system stable.

Please wash with soap and water using the proper hand washing technique because it is most effective. Alcohol (70%) and alcohol-based hand sanitizers will also help but please use the recommended hand rubbing technique. Pay attention to your personal hygiene.

Please do not lie about your travel history and existing medical conditions. It is the only way you can be helped by your medical team properly. It will also keep everyone around you safer from getting sick.

Follow the protocols suggested by the Department of Health (DOH) because they are there to ensure everyone’s health and safety. These are difficult times and the directives can be quite restricting and inconvenient but this is for our good. Please read the protocols thoroughly and learn them. This will help you know what to do when the need arises.

Please, please do not get mad at medical professionals if they take extra measures in assuring everyone’s safety. The whole medical team is dedicated to keeping the whole community COVID-19-free so please be patient and heed their advice. The influx of patients increases everyday so their workload can be overwhelming and with it the possible risks of contracting the virus increases too so please be considerate.

There’s a ton of information pouring into all media platforms. Please be discerning. Verify all information before believing in them and sharing them with others. As of date the most reliable sources are that of the following: Department of Health (DOH), World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID).

There is a lot to take in and in so short a time but do it for everyone’s sake. The more we know, the more we are prepared. Keep calm and be a good citizen.

This is not the time for bickering and fault finding. We should be united in fighting against this virus because this is all about us overcoming the odds. Stay healthy everyone!
