Pangan: And the hits just keep on coming

THE deadly coronavirus disease, now known as the Covid-19 has affected almost all developed and developing nations of the world. So widespread that the World Health Organization is near to declaring it as pandemic while its onslaught continues unabated.

World-reknown scientists and medical practitioners are agog in finding the cure to the dreaded illness. It seems it may take some time to discover the appropriate cure for this malady while the death toll increases by the minute. Here's hoping the researchers find the cure post haste to lessen worldwide fears and anxiety.

Meanwhile, losses continue to pile up especially for airline companies which had to resort to downsizing and cancellation of profitable flight destinations. Adding to their woes are the spiralling costs of fuel and the much-needed interest to travel of their avid customers.

Next to suffer massive shortfalls in revenues are hotels, resorts and restaurants and the entire local tourism industry as the proposed lock-down of affected areas looms very near. If the lock-down is imposed, they say, businesses will be severely affected causing unprecedented closures and cases of bankruptcy.

The work-from-home and telecommuting schemes are being positively endorsed by the Department of Labor and Employment so as to limit outside activities. Employers seem to favor the schemes as they lessen the risks of exposure to the disease of their workers.

Companies are now instituting cost-cutting measures to save on resources but to the extent of sacrificing job security of many employees.

In my previous column on the Property Manager of Fiesta Communities Homeowners Association, I mentioned that the officials of the Association are stubborn and have bad attitude toward the President thereof.

I extend my apologies to BOD/Auditor Angie Isais who felt alluded to by my statement, but I sincerely feel I have a basis for writing it.

Also, she narrated her frustration on their Group Chat (GC) and she said I do not preside over meetings and do not utter a single word, thus picturing me as incompetent. This is an outright lie and character assassination. She knows I presided over a meeting in introducing to the Board the Property Manager and one time I even acted as Secretary and took minutes of a Board Meeting.

I do not know why she harbors ill feeling toward me as I have done anything wrong to her.
