Covid-19 patient in NegOr dies

THE councilor who was tested positive of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Negros Oriental died yesterday.

Bimbo Miraflor, Public Information Officer of the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental said the councilor, identified as PH39 by the Department of Health, died at 11:09 am at the Silliman University Medical Center in Dumaguete City yesterday.

He is a 65- year old councilor from Tayasan, Negros Oriental and became the 9th victim of the Covid-19 in the country.

Miraflor said they already contacted the family and subjected to quarantine.

"After the patient was admitted to the hospital, they immediately went into self- quarantine," he said.

He also said contact tracing was also conducted to all the 240 teachers and students he came into contact with during the flag ceremony at Tayasan on March 2 and a graduation ceremony of Tayasan elementary pupils.

He was tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday March 11.

The patient had a travel history to Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila.

A statement from the Negros Oriental government said the councilor could be considered immunocompromised with multi- organ involvement as he was a kidney transplantee.

The patient traveled to Manila on February 26 to attend a meeting of the Philippine Councilors League.

Before returning to Tayasan on March 1, the patient went to Greenhills.

On March 3, he suffered diarrhea, which was followed by Covid-19 symptoms such as cough and fever.

The councilor was brought to a hospital on March 7 and was tested on March 9.

Meanwhile, Miraflor denied earlier reports that the province will be temporarily closing down its borders.

Governor Roel Degamo said there is no lockdown and travel restrictions coming to and out of Negros Oriental.

"We will implement stringent measures like composite checkpoints in every terminal to check on incoming passengers especially from the Occidental side," Miraflor said.
