THERE is still no suspension of classes in the city, but the final examinations of all public and private schools under the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Cagayan de Oro has been moved to March 16 to 20 on staggered basis.
The education department also reiterated that there will no suspension of classes.
Dr. Alicia Anghay, assistant schools division superintendent of DepEd Cagayan de Oro Division, said a school principal can only declare suspension of classes if a student is confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) to have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
"Kung dunay duha o labaw sa duha nga mga eskwelahan within Cagayan de Oro City nga duna poy ma-idetify nga Covid-infected nga bata or principal or non-teaching personnel, ang school's division superintendent pwede maka declare og suspension of classes. Pero dapat na-confirm gyapon ni sa DOH," Anghay said.
She added that the DepEd regional director can only declare the suspension of classes throughout the region when there are two school divisions within Northern Mindanao with confirmed cases of Covid-19.
"Sa atong mga eskwelahan sa public and private schools, wala pud tay na-identify nga bata or personnel nga nag-exhibit man lang og mga sintomas niana," Anghay said.
She added that while there is no suspension of classes, the final examinations will be done in the following schedule:
* March 16: Grade 1 and Grade 7
* March 17: Grade 2 and Grade 8
* March 18: Grade 3 and Grade 9
* March 19: Grade 4 and Grade 11
* March 20: Grade 5
Anghay said graduation students, after taking their final examinations, can only go back to their respective schools during their graduation rites set by the DepEd on April 13 to 17.
The DepEd Cagayan de Oro Division has also scheduled general cleaning and disinfection activity in all schools in the city.
The said activity will be done by hired volunteer workers. Learners and teachers are not included, Anghay said.
