Central Luzon police beef up operations amid Covid-19

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon is beefing up its security operations following President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of "State of Public Health Emergency" throughout the country.

Aside from its campaign against anti-criminality, PRO-Central Luzon Director Brigadier General Rhodel Sermonia they are also extending assistance to mitigate the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Particularly, Sermonia said police personnel were deployed all over the region starting Sunday midnight, March 15, for simultaneous checkpoint operations as part of the efforts to contain Covid-19.

"This is part of preventive measures to safeguard the health of the public especially that the Department of Health Central Luzon announced that the region has already confirmed cases of Covid-19," Sermonia said.

Similarly, more than a hundred police personnel are already deployed as perimeter security at the New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac as repatriates from California arrived on Sunday.

"We are always ready to help during health crisis and would always abide to orders but will only act depending on the disposition of the Department of Health," Sermonia said.

PRO-Central Luzon, together with concerned agencies, has also already issued guidelines on the conduct of checkpoint operations relative to Covid-19 to avoid public confusion.
