WORLD Youth and Junior Sambo Championships 2019 bronze medalist Sydney Sy Tancontian is back in Davao City, while the national boxing team coaches and boxers, including Aiba Women's World Boxing Championships 2019 gold medalist Nesthy Alcayde Petecio, are currently under their respective self-quarantine after competing in the ongoing Asian and Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying in Amman, Jordan.

Tancontian, 20 years old, who recently was crowned rookie of the year after winning a women's judo gold medal anew in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (Uaap), said she just arrived home in time for the lockdown that was implemented in Metro Manila Sunday, March 15.

The Manila-based multi-athlete said since her supposed tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, she better come home and spend time with her family.

Tancontian was earlier set to see action in the World Cup Sambo Championships slated in Moscow, Russia on March 20 to 23.

"Canceled po ang tournaments, off-season din po ako for the whole March po. Nag-disinfect po ako when I arrived," the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games women's kurash bronze medalist told SunStar Davao via Facebook Monday, March 16, adding that she will just be staying home.

Meanwhile, national boxing coach Roel Velasco, in a separate chat interview, said they have been in self-quarantine since they returned to the country on March 13.

Two Filipinos, Eumir Felix Marcial and Irish Magno earned slots to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He said, "Self-training na muna sila (athletes) habang naka self-quarantine."

Petecio, who is currently in Baguio City with the rest of the national boxers, also confirmed, "Naka self-quarantine ko run Ma'am (I'm on self-quarantine)."

Petecio, who lost in the women's featherweight quarterfinals to Japanese Sena Irie in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifying in Jordan, added, "Dapat mag-uli unta ko pero gi-lockdown naman pud ang Davao kaya wala na lang (I planned to go home but Davao was also on lockdown so I just stayed here)."

The 30th SEA Games 2019 women's boxing gold medalist was pertaining to their home in Barangay Tuban in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Petecio began her amateur boxing career in Davao City.
