BCPO conducts checkpoint in Bacolod boundaries

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is now intensifying its checkpoint operations in the city’s boundaries in compliance with the Executive Order (EO) 21 declaring general community quarantine in Bacolod.

BCPO Director Colonel Henry Binas said Monday, March 16, policemen were deployed in the boundaries of the province and Bacolod City for checkpoint operations.

These areas include the boundaries of Bacolod-Talisay in Barangay Bata, Mansilingan going to Murcia, and Araneta going to Bago City.

The checkpoint was led by personnel from BCPO-Mobile Patrol Group, and Bacolod City Mobile Force Company.

On Sunday, March 15, Mayor Evelio Leonardia ordered EO 21, declaring general community quarantine in the city.

Leonardia said that during this general community quarantine, all land, sea and air travel to and from the City of Bacolod shall be restricted.

“Movement of goods or cargoes to and from the city shall not be hampered or restricted. However, persons delivering such goods or cargoes shall be subject to the necessary health checking procedure by the duly designated authorities,” he said.

The mayor tasked the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to secure the ports and all boarders of the city respectively, and to set up checkpoints at areas of entry into the city.

Binas said BCPO personnel were also equipped with protective gear, thermal scanner and there was standby ambulance in the area.

“Those who will be checked with symptoms of Covid-19 will be rushed to the quarantine area or it will depend on the recommendation of our health personnel,” he said.

Binas also asked the cooperation of the public to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19.

The PCG is also doing its measures for the implementation of EO 21 in the city’s sea ports.

Meanwhile, all the barangay officials in Bacolod City also held a meeting Monday, March 16, at the Bacolod Government Center and discussed the implementation of EO 21.

Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, Liga ng mga Barangay president, said they discussed all the measures to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19, including the possible implementation of curfew in the city.

She said there is an initial proposal for the implementation of curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., but it still needs an ordinance.

“We should prepare our tanods to augment for the implementation of EO 21 and we have our daily reporting to the City Health Office regarding the persons under monitoring within our barangays,” she added.
