Zubiri rumored to endorse Villar

BUKIDNON Governor Jose Maria Zubiri’s purported endorsement of Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar is the main “teaser” of the Nacionalista Party (NP) presidential candidate’s sortie in the province Monday.

Zubiri, who is on his last term and is running for the vice gubernatorial race, will welcome Villar Monday as he visits the province for the first time since the presidential campaign started.

“Zubiri will show his real political color during Villar’s visit,” said an insider in the NP campaign familiar with the Bukidnon sortie.

Zubiri is allied with the ruling Lakas-CMD-Kampi coalition, and his endorsement has been sought even by candidates outside his party.

A call to Zubiri’s office had rung unanswered Sunday. An aide declined to comment on the possibility of an endorsement for Villar, but added, “Let’s just see if it happens.”

After the Bukidnon sortie, Villar’s next stop is Cagayan de Oro, where he is scheduled to tour the city’s public markets.

Villar, accompanied by his running mate Loren Legarda and NP senatorial ticket, has already visited Mindanao twice.

Early this month, his slate visited Caraga, one of the country’s poorest regions.

Villar and his entourage also wooed the voters in the cities of Davao, Kidapawan, Koronadal and Cotabato province through motorcades and public market tours. (Sun.Star)
