MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has called on the public’s cooperation and understanding on the restrictions currently in place following the local government’s issuance of several directives for the prevention of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Zamboanga City.

Salazar said measures are being implemented and exhausted to keep this city safe from Covid-19.

“We assure the public that the city government of Zamboanga is taking extra steps to keep our people safe. We have doubled our efforts to safeguard our entry points and borders. Protocols are in place and screenings are implemented. We also instruct all barangay chairpersons and officials to activate our respective barangay health emergency response teams to cooperate with Task Force Covid-19 especially in enforcing home quarantines and in any eventuality,” she said.

Through the Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19, preventive measures and restrictions have been put in place over this city, such as the cancellation of all private and public events and mass gatherings, religious activities, and the cancellation of classes in all levels both public and private and madrasahs, graduation, recognition, and moving up rites, and the suspension of inbound trips.

The restriction on transport and travel, however, does cover the movement of goods and outgoing passenger trips, and Salazar assured the continued and sufficient supply of goods and commodities.

She discouraged residents from panic buying and hoarding, adding that persons caught hoarding and overpricing goods will be penalized. (SunStar Zamboanga)
