THE Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) announced the suspension of its medical and gaming activities effective 12 noon Tuesday, March 17 until further notice.

PCSO general manager Royina Garma, in a statement released on the PCSO’s Facebook page, said the mandate is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of enhanced community quarantine in Luzon on Monday.

Pursuant to Proclamation Nos. 922 and Republic Act 11332, the PCSO announced the nationwide suspension of lotto, digit games, and Keno operations which include ticket selling and holding of draws; suspension of small town lottery (STL) operations in Luzon only; STL operations in Visayas and Mindanao shall continue but will be evaluated daily; and suspension of medical assistance program in Metro Manila.

"This move will promote safety of its playing public, employees, and stakeholders/beneficiaries," the statement read.

The PCSO is a government owned and controlled corporation under the Office of the President. It is mandated to raise and provide funds for health programs, including medical assistance and services.

The PCSO has set aside P400 million for the medical and rehabilitation needs that may arise from the coronavirus pandemic. (SunStar Philippines)
