Davao Region inflation inches to 2.4% in February

DAVAO Region posted a 2.4 percent inflation rate in February this year or a 0.2 percent increase from its January 2020 inflation.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority bared that the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro have the highest inflation rate, both at 2.6 percent.

It was followed by Davao del Sur with a 2.5 percent inflation rate which is a significant spike from its January 2020 inflation rate of 1.7 percent.

Meanwhile, the Province of Davao Oriental registered a negative trend in February with 1.0 percent from 2.3 percent in January.

According to PSA, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products recorded a significant inflation rate at 14.4 percent; clothing and footwear at 4.3 percent; health at 4.9 percent; and recreation and culture at 3.1 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverage at 1.1 percent, and communication at 0.7.

Food items that have higher rates in prices were fish at 10.6 percent, Sugar, Jam, Honey, Chocolate and Confectionery at -3.7 percent, and Fruits at 15.1 percent.

Transport, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels have a slower annual increase in their price indices at 2.4 and 2.2 percent, respectively.

Other items which registered slower annual inflation were vegetables (-1.1 percent), food products, N.E.C. (10.3 percent), corn (-10.6 percent); other cereals, flour, cereal preparation, bread, pasta and other bakery products (4.6 percent); and oils and fats (2.1 percent). (RAG)
