A FAMILY in Dipolog City, Philippines has decided to take out one of its Christmas lanterns from storage area and hang it by a window to send a message of hope in this time of crisis.

"It is a symbol of light at the end of the tunnel and a reminder that, with massive effort, modern medicine and prayers, the coming holidays will turn out to be bright," said Armand Bengua Frasco in a message to SunStar Cebu.

Frasco said his family was inspired by an article posted on House Beautiful website that called on those who prefer to stay at home because of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) to hang up their Christmas lights again.

"So if you're home with nothing to do, I have a suggestion: Hang up your Christmas lights again (or just switch them on if, like me, you still haven't taken them down yet) and hopefully, you'll inspire your neighbors to do the same," the author, Nathalie Kirby, wrote.

"Inspired by this article, our family has decided to take out one of our Christmas parols from storage and hang it by our window to signify hope in a world enveloped by fright and darkness," Frasco added.

Also inspired to do the same? Start hanging your Christmas lanterns this March.

The Philippines, as of March 19, has a total of 217 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Seventeen of these patients had died, while eight have recovered. (LMY)
