THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has reported significant decline of crimes in the city while fighting against the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Cocpo spokesperson Major Evan Vinas said crime volume has dropped every week.

From 117 recorded crimes in March 3 to 9, it went down to 78 in March 10 to 16.

“‘This is because of extraordinary measures in relation to the clear and present danger of Covid-19. Potential criminal ceased from doing,”Vinas said.

Vinas’ counterpart in the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao said there is a reduction of crimes in the region but they are still checking if this is due to the Covid-19 threat.

PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson Mardy Hortillosa said there homicide, theft and carnapping incidents have reduced.

“Sa statistics, naay pag-ubos, but dili pa sure kung Covid ang hinungdan kay wala paman nag-implement og quarantine atong miaging semana. Naa tay pag-ubos og 7 crimes from previous week compare to the present week,” Lieutenant Colonel Hortillosa said.
