Baguio needs alcohol, masks, and scanners

BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong is trying to acquire 700 gallons of alcohol and 150 thermal scanners with thousands of surgical face masks to assure the city of better health.

“Hindi naman totally and completely wala tayo face mask at alcohol, mabilis lang maubos. We are now looking for a big supplier for the government so we can distribute,” Magalong said.

The chief executive said rounds to grocery stores as well as meetings with warehouse owners show supply of food and essentials is enough for the city.

“We just have to contend with what we have at the moment,” Magalong said.

Magalong added city funds to operate in this time of emergency amounts to at least P90,000 a day as he appealed for all to stay calm and not resort to panic buying while asking the private sector to be kinder to those with less and give anything they can spare to help the needy.

“We have already been receiving donations for the past days and I would like to appeal to the private sector, business men, well to do families, if you have something to spare, all you have to do is get in touch with us, honestly we need your donations kasi napaka dami na ang nangangailangan,” Magalong quipped.

Magalong also appealed to citizens to trust barangay officials to deliver services and items to them.

“There will always be people to take advantage an exploit but we simply have to trust the barangay officials to distribute it to the needy, we simply have to trust the barangay and with the way things are going, they can be trusted and delivery of items will reach the intended beneficiaries,” Magalong said.

The chief executive said garbage collection must go on as sanitation is imperative as he assured personnel will be given more durable and safe uniforms as they perform their tasks.
