POPE Francis has appointed Fr. Moises Cuevas as the auxiliary bishop of Zamboanga.

In a report by CBCPNews, the appointment of Cuevas was made public on Thursday, at 12 noon in Rome (7 p.m. local time).

"In his new role, the bishop-elect will assist the current archbishop of Zamboanga, Archbishop Romulo Dela Cruz," the official news agency of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines reported.

Cuevas was born in Batangas City in November 1973 and was ordained a priest for the Zamboanga Archdiocese in December 2000.

The auxiliary bishop-elect previously served as parish vicar of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Zamboanga (2001-2003); rector of the Sanctuary Nostra Signora del Pilar (2003-2009); and chancellor of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga (2003-2009).

He was also the administrator of the Pastoral Center (2005-2007); and parish priest of the Parish of Santa Maria (2009-2015).

Since 2017, Cuevas has been serving as director of the Zamboanga Archdiocese’s Commission on the Clergy.

Prior to his appointment, Cuevas has also been serving as the parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Zamboanga City. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
