Village chiefs take oath to fight Covid-19

VILLAGE chairmen of the municipality of Candaba on Thursday, March 19, vowed to protect their people from the dreaded coronavirus disease (Covid-19) by strictly enforcing the rules formulated in line with the enhanced community quarantine.

Thirty-one of the total 33 village chairmen here took their oath before Mayor Rene Maglanque to perform their duties in the fight against the highly contagious disease.

Maglanque said the oath taking was conducted after the meeting where their duties and task, as well as general information on the implementation of enhanced community quarantine.

“We first informed and let them understood their mandated duties and responsibilities in protecting their constituents from Covid-19, especially through the strict implementation of quarantine,” he said.

Under the oath, chairmen of villages who fail to contain the virus or help his or her constituents amid the health crisis will be held accountable.

“This is to let them understand the weight of their duty amid this crisis. As elected public officials, they vowed to serve their constituents, and this is a renewal of their oath to serve and protect the people who voted for them at all cost,” he added.

As of Friday morning, this municipality remains free from Covid-19, but continuously monitor the communities, especially that Candaba is a border municipality between Pampanga and Bulacan provinces.

The local government has also been conductive preventive measures such as implementation of quarantine and curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and disinfection of public places.

Residents who were heavily-affected by the enhanced community quarantine also received food supplies, specifically eggs that were purchased from local vendors.

Maglanque urged Candabaños to cooperate with the local government and barangay as they implement measures aimed at containing the Covid-19.

“Let us be cooperative and show unity to ensure that our community, especially our children, will not be infected by this deadly virus,” he said.
