Megaworld waives mall rental fees; extends food aid to police, military, healthcare workers

MEGAWORLD is waiving the rental charges of its tenants and retail partners in its malls and commercial centers in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon from March 16 to April 12, particularly those who are unable to operate due to the Covid-19 Luzon-wide quarantine.

“We understand the impact of our mall closures to our retail partners and merchants, and we would like to provide them with this reprieve in order to help them recover during this difficult time,” says Graham Coates, first vice president and head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

Aside from waiving the rental fees during this time, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls will also assist mall merchants like supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics, and banks that have been allowed to open during the quarantine period in terms of in-store sanitation and disinfecting efforts.

On the other hand, Megaworld has extended food assistance to healthcare and medical personnel in various Metro Manila hospitals including border security personnel from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Bureau of Fire Protection deployed in different parts of Metro Manila.

More than 1,000 food packs and water have already been distributed to frontline medical and healthcare personnel In Philippine General Hospital, Pasig City General Hospital, Pasay City General Hospital, San Lazaro Hospital, Taguig General Hospital, and Ospital ng Makati, and to the National Capital Region (NCR) Border Security Teams.

“We still have scheduled distribution of McDonald’s food boxes and bottled water to other hospitals in the coming days, and to other border security outposts across Metro Manila. We are also looking into extending food assistance to our LGU workforce who are also on the frontline of assisting people and ensuring community order during this quarantine period,” said Francis Canuto, president, Megaworld Foundation.
