SunStar LIVE! (SL): Who were some of your role models growing up? Explain why.
LOURDES (L): Growing up, my Lola became my role model. I looked up to her because no matter how ugly the situation, she always kept her composure. She defined grace under pressure. She never got mad. She was a very strong woman—so compassionate and loving. I love my Lola.
SL: What have been some of your career highlights so far?
L: It started when I championed in Vispop 1 and Vispop 2 with “Laylay” and “Buwag Balik.” Another highlight was when I released my first single “Empty Sheets.” It was also memorable for me to release “2 Cents” and have it at number 1 in Y101’s Weekend Top 20 for four weeks. I’ll have to say that the “Ruin the Party” album launch was also a favorite. Now, I’m glad to have “Ruin the Party” at number 1 in Y101’s Weekend Top 20 for three weeks now.
SL: How did you achieve the success that you have attained now?
L: Success for me was completing the album. It took years of pouring my heart out just to finish it. Everything else after is just a bonus which I am very blessed and grateful for.
SL: What do you find most fulfilling about what you do?
L: I always take it to heart when people say, “Your whole album is my anthem.” I feel like these pieces of me had a purpose and lived it.
SL: For you, what qualities should one have in order to succeed?
L: Grit. Passion and talent is not enough. You should be hungry to claim it. Want it. Own it.
SL: What’s the best piece of advice you can give young women who are also trying to succeed in their fields?
L: Don’t be afraid to take up space. Speak up when things are wrong. Be unapologetic of who you are.
