WITH our situation right, several food establishments in the city have temporarily ceased operations in response to the directive of the local government unit. Whether these are stand-alone stores or those inside mixed-use buildings and malls, these have temporarily closed.

Right now, we are seeing more of our favorite restaurants making themselves available for pick-up or deliveries. The delivery personnel of various food and errands delivery services are busier nowadays compared to two weeks ago.

Many of us have do not have kitchens to cook our meals and others simply do not know how to cook. Thanks to these food delivery services, we are able to enjoy our meals at the comfort of our homes.

This past week, since most of the eateries in our area have been temporarily closed, I have been relying heavily on these food delivery services. Just a few taps on my phone, I get to enjoy the meal I want.

Some of my favorite meals to date are Kalye’t Kusina’s Mozzarella Korean Chicken with rice, Wynward Garden Bistro’s Sweet and Sour Veggie Meatballs with cauliflower rice, and Out of Nowhere Kitchen’s Korean Chicken. For dessert I once ordered Maura Shore’s Chocolate Chip Cookie and Brown Butter Pecan Ice Cream.

I always enjoy the food from Kalye’t Kusina. Their Mozzarella Korean Chicken is among my favorite dishes from the restaurant. It was spicy, sweet, and cheezy. The sauce had lots of flavor and I just enjoyed every spoonful of it.

Lately, I have been leaning towards more plant-based food. Therefore, I am happy that Wynward Garden Bistro has been offering some delicious vegetarian meals. The Sweet and Sour Vegetarian Meatballs with cauliflower rice was also great. It has been my favorite vegetarian dish to date. The sauce was delicious and the veggie meatballs were wonderfully seasoned. In general, I am not a fan of the cauliflower rice. I always find it to be too grainy. But thanks to the delicious sweet and sour sauce, I was able to enjoy the cauliflower rice.

Out of Nowhere Kitchen’s Korean Chicken was also great. This had a nice punch of spiciness that was balanced out by some sweetness and sourness.

Despite being delivered, I liked that most of the dishes I ordered still tasted good.

The two ice cream flavors I ordered from Maura Shore -- Chocolate Chip Cookie and Brown Butter Pecan Ice -- were winners. They were simpy delicious. Their ice cream just made me happy.

With the temporary closure of most restaurants in the city, we can still enjoy the food at the comfort of our homes. I like to also think that this is one way I can help the small and medium enterprises in the city that are greatly affected by our current situation.

To the people delivering and preparing the food, thank you. I pray for your safety and protection as you move around the city keeping our tummies filled.
