AMID the implementation of community quarantine and lockdown, a lot of our favorite go-to places for beauty products and must-have procedures are not available these days. However, there are several beauty hacks that we can still do while staying home.

Some might be thinking that their skin or hair is “doomed” since they cannot visit the salon or spa for weeks (or even months). So, I asked my friends about their beauty regimen which others can try. Here are their tips:

Warmed olive or coconut oil

One of the many things that make communication specialist Lany dela Cruz stand out is her shiny and tangle-free hair. Her secret? Warmed olive or coconut oil.

“I'm deep conditioning my hair these days with warmed olive oil or coconut oil, which I massage on my hair, especially the ends. I leave it on for 30 minutes then wash,” she said.

Lany does this before she applies conditioner on her hair. You may do this once a week. By the way, you may substitute olive and coconut oil with sunflower oil.

Petroleum jelly

If you are a fan of foot spa but does not have a machine at home, you can do the beauty hack from Songspell Philippines–Davao head Koi Sevilla.

“Petroleum Jelly + Socks = Smooth, supple and pretty feet!” she said.

You can do this at night before you enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Potato and calamansi combo

High school teacher Cynthia Baral shared that for a lighter and softer skin, the potato and calamansi combo can be your best ally.

“Ang combination juice ng patatas and calamansi or lemon ay nakaka-lighten ng skin. Nakakalambot din talaga ng balat,” she said.

This concoction will be applied all over your body. You may also add this to your regular body wash.

Sunblock and eye cream

For Mahalia Leung-Albino, the use of sunblock is non-negotiable.

“Cleanse, treatment essence, serum, moisturize and eye cream. In the morning, don’t forget your sun block. For those in their 30s and above, don’t ever forget to put your eye cream day and night. I swear by it,” said the fashionista mom.

Water

As with Jay Ancheta, consuming lots of water is a must when it comes to keeping your glow.

The usual recommended amount of eight glasses a day can be increased, especially with the high temperature recently. Likewise, you can put slices of lemon into it for a dose of vitamin C and to have a more refreshing drink.

Hope you find these suggestions helpful.

In the next issue, we will feature more tips using easy to find ingredients and easy to follow procedures. Yes, we are looking for practical and economical beauty hacks just for you.

Keep well and safe, everyone!
