Wacky Tips: Ways and means to keep boredom in check during quarantine

AS WE all go through these trying times, we’re all told to stay at home. And whether we all like it or not, we should follow what the government says. Besides, staying at home lowers your risk of exposure to Covid-19. Staying at home also lowers the risk of others being exposed to the virus just in case you’re actually carrying it but you just don’t know.

Anyway, for the most of us, staying at home will mean more time to burn. All of a sudden, we’re not spending our time on getting too busy at work or sitting down in meetings that, somehow, crawls to no end. All of a sudden, we’re all staring into the face of boredom at home and it’s ready to consume us.

Thankfully, there are a few ways to help fight that boredom. There’s, of course, Netflix, probably the first choice of video streaming platform for movies and all. But staring into that TV computer screen for hours on end can lead to another set of problems with repetitive content. And in some cases, we might all run out of things to watch.

Here are a few tips.

Check out other streaming services.

There’s Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, iFlix, to name a few. I suggest you check those out and look for any trial periods. If there are, take advantage of it. Those trial periods might just be long enough for you to ride out the quarantine and not have to pay a cent for the service. Just make sure you cancel your account before the trial period ends.

Read, read, read and listen, listen, listen.

A few days ago, Scribd’s CEO, Trip Adler posted on his Facebook that Scrib is making its entire library available for free. If you’re into reading a lot of stuff and this is your first time hearing about Scribd, this may be a great time to sign up for free and peruse the entire library for free. Oh, and Scribd has audiobook too if you’re into that. And if you’re into listening instead of reading, check out Audible as well.

Exercise, exercise, exercise.

Locked up in our houses might end up with lots of food binging and, more dangerously, junk food binging. And if we all continue on this dark path, we’d all collectively gain weight and that’s something we don’t want. The answer here is to do home workouts. If you’ve never done one, this is a good time to start. Whether you’re on Android, iOS there’s a free app out there to help you with your home workouts without the need for gym equipment. I recommend checking out Freeletics, Nike Training Club, and Flight Fitness just to name a few.

There is so much more that we can do to keep ourselves productive even when just being at home. The possibilities are endless, to be honest. It’s all up to you, in the end.
