Mayor says he can't prohibit entry of non-Oro residents

MAYOR Oscar Moreno lauded Governor Jose Maria Zubiri's decision to close the borders of Bukidnon from non-residents of the province, but said he cannot do the same for Cagayan de Oro.

"I tell you, insakto sya," said Moreno during the regular press conference on coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Saturday, March 21.

On Friday, March 20, Zubiri placed Bukidnon under community quarantine, barring those who are not residents of the province from entering Bukidnon except for health workers, government employees, and humanitarian organizations amid the Covid-19 threat.

People from Bukidnon, however, can still enter Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro.

"Talking about the Covid threat, ako I cannot say nga I do not agree with Governor Zubiri and I wish him well and the people of Bukidnon," Moreno said.

While people from Bukidnon can still enter the borders of the city, Moreno said he is "fine" with it as the city's community quarantine still allows the entry of those who are not from Cagayan de Oro.

The mayor said he cannot prohibit those who are not from Cagayan de Oro from entering the city as it is where the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) is located.

"I hope na I will not get to that point pero simbako mag worsen, maglisod ako. Galisod sad ko nga dili pasulod sila kay nia dinhi sa ato ang regional medical center, the referral center," Moreno said.

"Nia sad sa ato ang the best hospitals of Region 10. We always pride ourselves as the hospital center," he added.

Moreno said the key measures to combat the Covid-19 threat are the operational efficiency and cost efficiency.

He also reminded the public to stay at home and practice social distancing.
