Tesda produces face masks for Covid-19 frontliners, vulnerable sector

TRAINERS, trainees and volunteer graduates of schools and training centers of the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda) in Northern Mindanao are producing washable face masks for distribution to those at the frontlines of the government's efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Tesda-Northern Mindanao Director Tarhata Mapandi said each of the Tesda schools and training centers in the region were instructed to produce 1,500 masks.

"We have 10 Tesda schools and training centers here, so we are expecting 15,000 face masks to be produced and distributed to frontliners, local government units, those who cannot afford to buy face masks, and who cannot buy face masks due to scarcity of supply," she said.

Mapandi said this is in response to Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña's call to all training institutions that have registered programs in dressmaking to immediately start producing and distributing face masks.

On Friday, the Cagayan de Oro-Bugo School of Arts and Trades distributed 100 pieces of face masks to the medical staff of Northern Mindanao Medical Center.

Tesda Misamis Occidental also turned over 40 face masks to the Philippine National Police in Oroquieta City.

Tesda regional staff handed out face masks to barangay officials, senior citizens, nearby vendors and passersby in Barangay Macasandig in Cagayan de Oro City.

Meanwhile, Mapandi turned over textile materials to Tesda-Lanao del Sur for the production of face masks for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marawi as part of the assistance of Tesda-Northern Mindanao to Task Force Bangon Marawi.

Mapandi also gave face masks to Tesda-Lanao del Sur head Asnawi L. Bato for Tesda LDS skeletal workforce and frontliners of their office. (PIA)
