“IN My Diary” noted almost empty: Lonely roads in Cebu IT Park, quiet evenings, fewer call center agents roaming around Geonzon Street or eating lunch or dinner in street carenderias. The restaurants are practically empty; Traffic loosened.

But nothing could put down the spirit of the Cebuanos. If there are tragedies, there are triumphs as well. The other positive scenes are meaningful celebrations of Cebuanos proving their mettle in international competitions. I missed the thanksgiving party of “marathon legend” Dr. Yong Larrazabal, the thanksgiving lunch for Cebu lifestyle writers hosted by Ingrid Sala Santamaria, the Cebu Pacific lunch at Rustan’s organized by BigSeed, the birthday dinners of Ed Rosello and Emm Espina, and many others.

The WeCare celebration of the 70th birthday of Peter Dy was postponed to mourn the untimely demise of old-time member Gloria Gaisano. The oratorical contest on Gender Equality of Benedicto College, in partnership with the Zonta Club of Cebu 1, will be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 had elected Gina Atienza as its president for Biennium 2020 to 2022. Vice president for internal and external affairs are Jane Panganiban and Matt Baguia, respectively. Elena Young heads Zonta 2 anew. Felix Taguiam is the new president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Graduate School doctoral classes, with students coming from the Visayas and Mindanao, will go online for their research outputs. The graduation has been tentatively rescheduled.

Speechcom, Knapsack Dance Studio and the Brown Academy of Music will arrange new schedules for their regular and summer classes.

We all look forward to the “silver lining” at the end of the current tunnel of crisis, with God’s grace and love.
