THE first positive case of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Davao Region who was admitted at the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Tagum City, tested negative for the second swab testing and was released from the hospital Monday, March 23.

The patient, tagged as PH130, is in stable condition and continues to recover.

In a report from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Davao Region, this was confirmed on Monday by Dr. Mitzie Lou Osabel, Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) Infectious Disease specialist and head of Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease Control Team. The hospital has informed concerned local government unit of the status of the patient.

On March 15, Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development (DOH-DCHD) confirmed that a 21-year-old woman from Pantukan, Davao de Oro, who traveled from the United Kingdom, was confirmed positive for the respiratory disease. She arrived in the Philippines from the United Kingdom with layover via Doha, Qatar to Manila then to Davao on February 29, 2020.

The patient first sought consultation to a local health facility due to cough and was immediately isolated on March 9. She was transferred and admitted for isolation and testing to a referral hospital last March 10.

The Department of Health (DOH) Davao then conducted contact tracing to people she had close interaction with.

During his radio interview at Radyo de Oro, Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy was delighted with the result of the patient from their province. He is also thankful to the hospital personnel for their sacrifices and for taking care of the patients under investigation (PUIs).

“That will also erase our fears nga adunay (that there is) community transmission. As of now, wala tay community transmission (We still don’t have community transmission),” Uy said.

Aside from the confirmed patient, seven out of nine PUIs from their province tested negative and subsequently released from the hospital.
