Gasataya votes for Bayanihan Act

“IT IS a vote for life, for the Filipino, for humanity and for the future.”

This was the statement of Bacolod Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya after he voted in favor of the “Bayanihan Act” Monday, March 23.

“It is mainly anchored on the necessity and beneficiality of such measure as the nation continues to battle this nightmare called the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). My position stands on the principle that the welfare of the people should be the supreme law of the land,” Gasatay said.

I cannot overemphasize enough that we are now in an extraordinary time that calls for extraordinary decisions, he added.

Gasataya further said that we are confronted with this challenging “war” and we must utilize everything we have to win it as soon as possible. To survive this, our actions must be decisive, swift, timely and responsive. We believe this measure provides us with answers to many of our questions.

With the passage of the Bayanihan Act, more or less 18 million households will be given financial assistance. This is the answer to the cries for help of our less fortunate brothers and sisters, who are greatly affected by the current situation. These are the people who badly need food on their tables to stay alive.

This is the answer to the call of our frontliners, our heroes -- the medical workers, the doctors, nurses, scientists, laboratory technicians and medical technologists, nursing aides, ordinary hospital workers, the PNP and military personnel, the tanods and volunteers at check-up points, the congressman said.

We have to provide them all the things they need such as ample supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other vital medical equipment, especially testing kits. We cannot afford to let them die as they perform life-threatening functions to keep us all alive.

Gasataya also explained the measure is likewise the answer to the call of our Covid-19 patients, our PUIs, our PUMs, including their respective families. With this Act in place, we will be able to fast track the testing of patients while, at the same time, focus our efforts more on their recovery.

This is the answer, too, to the call of our local government units, especially our barangay officials for more help coming from the national government.

“We have to fight this Covid-19 together and only when we join forces we can triumph against this unseen enemy fast and more effectively,” he added.
