Relief package for vendors, rela, sikad drivers approved

THE City Council approved on Monday afternoon, March 23, an ordinance that will allow the City Government to provide relief packages to public market vendors affected by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) threat in Cagayan de Oro City.

"Gidispensa ug dili mangolekta ang atong gobyerno lokal sa Cogon, Puerto, Westbound, and Carmen public markets," said Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, chairman of the committee on economic enterprise, laws and rules, and planning and development.

Mayor Oscar Moreno earlier endorsed to the City Council that vendors in Cogon, Carmen and Puerto public markets will be given relief packages amid the Covid-19 problem.

"Kanang gapamaligya [sa merkado] to me is heroism, that is heroism. Mao na nga para dili sila, kay kulang man ilang kita kay minus ang gapamalit, ma expose pa sila sa virus... I will endorse favorably to the City Council nga tagaan og relief package ang kamerkadohan," Moreno said.

The ordinance was later approved Monday afternoon to provide the stimuli package for those who are directly affected by the Covid-19 threat, such as the vendors; motorela, trisikad, and jeepney drivers; and others under the employment sector.

At present, there is still no target date as to when the relief package will be given to the beneficiaries.
