NINETY more confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have been reported Tuesday, March 25, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 552.

Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Maria said the number of cases will continue to increase with more test kits available and with the establishment of five sub-national laboratories in the country.

She said that as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, 20 patients have recovered, while the death toll increased to 35 from 33. More than 700 have tested negative for the new coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

She appealed to the public to stay at home and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of the new virus.

"Atin pong ituloy ang laban kontra Covid-19. Wag na po tayong lumabas ng bahay kung di po kinakailangan. Kung kailangan po nating lumabas, magpractice po tayo nga social distancing measures," she said in a press briefing.

She added that the availability of sub-national laboratories and test kits will also allow the DOH and the public to know who is Covid-19 positive.

"Mainam na din po ito para ating nalalaman sa habang maaga kung sino ang Covid-19 positive para sila ay mabigyan agad ng kaukulang alaga," she said.

She called on those who have symptoms of Covid-19 and have underlying medical conditions, or those experiencing respiratory problems to go to hospitals for testing.

The DOH earlier said that hospitals will still prioritize for testing those who already have symptoms of Covid-19, the elderly, and pregnant women. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
