Cops continue anti-drug ops amid Covid-19 scare

A GOVERNMENT employee and three others were arrested in an anti-drugs operations in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police said Tuesday, March 24.

This, as the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula continues its anti-drug campaign amid the imposition of quarantine measures to prevent the entry of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the region.

Police Major Helen Galvez, PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Edwin Hugo, 56; Givani Ricablanca, 46; Arnold Bernabe, 40; and Junior Abdullah, 51.

Galvez said Hugo was arrested in a drug bust at 5:55 p.m. Monday in Camino Nuevo Village, Zamboanga City.

She said recovered from the possession of Hugo were some P5,000 worth of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and P200 marked money

Galvez added that Ricablanca, a government employee, was arrested around 10:50 a.m. Monday at Purok Mahogany in F.L. Peña Village, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The police officer said Ricablanca works as secretary at the mayor’s office of Kabasalan.

Seized from him were some P5,000 worth of suspected shabu and P500 marked money.

Galvez said seized from Bernabe were some P2,500 worth of suspected shabu and P500 marked Monday when arrested around 5:30 p.m. Monday in Marketsite Village, Isabela City, Basilan.

She said recovered from Abdullah were some P16,000 worth of suspected shabu when arrested by policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives around 6:40 p.m. Monday in Magdaup Village, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

She said also seized from Abdullah was P500 marked money.

Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the arrested suspects, Galvez added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
