P1.9M thermal scanners seized

SOME P1.9 million worth of thermal scanners were confiscated by a joint team of the National Bureau of Investigation-Northern Mindanao, City Government, Food and Drugs Administration and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro Tuesday, March 24.

The raiding team seized 203 units of thermal scanners from a businessman who allegedly supplies medical equipment to hospitals.

Regulatory and Compliance Board (RCB) spokesperson Antonio Resma said the owners failed to present appropriate and necessary Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) and License to Operate (LTO) from their supplier, as mandated by FDA Advisory 2020-434, and Republic Act 9711.

The medical equipments are also being sold at P9,500 each, while prevailing market price is only at P389.

The City Hall said investigation and case build up will be made by the NBI for the owner's possible violation of the Consumer Act of the Philippines (no proper label), Price Act (profiteering), RA 9711 (mandatory labeling requirement), and other applicable laws. (PJO)
