BRANDON Vismanos Perang has apologized after having provoked the ire of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia by cursing and mocking the government’s measures against the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

“I’m very, very sorry,” said the resident of Mandaue City who surrendered to authorities on Monday afternoon, March 23, 2020, after Garcia called him out in a Facebook post.

Accompanied by Cebu Police Provincial Office Director Col. Roderick Mariano, Perang was presented to members of the media on Tuesday afternoon, March 24.

Donning a surgical mask, Perang raised his right hand as he issued a public apology in front of the governor.

Perang pledged to abide by the rules set by the government as they are for the common good and to refrain from posting derogatory remarks against the government on social media.

Perang said he made those remarks as he felt that his freedom would be taken away by the strict implementation of social distancing and the curfew.

This did not sit well with the governor, who pointed out that all measures related to the Covid-19 are new to everyone whose countries are affected by the pandemic.

Garcia said: “Your freedom? Your so-called freedom would put lives at risk.”

In the same conference, the governor warned netizens who use foul words, use updates from legitimate media outlets as memes and spread false information related to Covid-19 that charges will be filed against them.

Despite his public apology, Perang will still face charges as Garcia stood pat on her move to teach him a lesson and make this incident serve as a lesson for others. (RTF)
