‘Coronavirus or funeral corona’, mayor warns

CAPAS town Mayor Reynaldo Lopez Catacutan has warned disobedient people may end up acquiring the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) or the funeral corona.

“You choose from the two, corona virus or corona de funeraria,” the mayor repeatedly said during a series of dialogue with residents in some villages in Capas where the New Clark City, designated as quarantine site of returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), is situated.

Catacutan stressed that the people should follow the guidelines of the government in relation to the enhanced community qurantine to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In Russia, President Vladimir Putin allegedly released 800 lions on streets of major cities to enforce the Covid-19 lockdown, according to Catacutan.

But in the Philippines, the mayor said there are no lions and so local government officials only asked their constituents to stay at home while the one month community quarantine is in effect.

“We barely sleep, we are doing everything for your welfare and protection. We appeal to people to obey the lockdown rules and stay at home to prevent the spread of the virus,” Catacutan said.

“If one of us will get the virus, he will infect the whole family and eventually the entire barangay,” he added.

Residents who will test positive of the virus will be extracted from their residences and brought to the New Clark City or hospitals for isolation and treatment, Catacutan said.

Catacutan said many residents in Barangay Cristo Rey, a resettlement adjacent to the New Clark City, disobey the quarantine guidelines.
