THE new chief of the Cebu City Police Office said they have gathered all the necessary documents to file a case against Cebu Councilor Pricsca "Niña" Mabatid on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

Mabatid posted unverified reports on social media about three persons who died in a hospital due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

According to Police Colonel Hector Grijaldo, police personnel visited the house of Mabatid on Tuesday, but only her lawyer faced them.

The CCPO will coordinate with the Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit Central Visayas for the complaint.

The pieces of evidence gathered by police include the screenshots of Mabatid's posts on Facebook.

“That is not good attitude being a public official,” Grijaldo said.

Grijaldo reminded everyone that there are protocols when posting such reports and that announcements are first verified by the Department of Health.

The police chief added that in a time of crisis, it is best to not post false reports online to avoid triggering panic among citizens. (AYB/JGS)
