Kagay-anon who tested positive for Covid-19 'asymptomatic'

THE 71-year-old man from Cagayan de Oro who tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is asymptomatic, or not showing any symptoms of the illness.

He was even allowed to go home pending his test results, but was admitted back to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) after his test came out positive.

"Ang pasyente wala man sya'y symptoms (The patient has no symptoms)," Dr. Rachel Dilla of the City Health Office said.

The patient arrived in Cagayan de Oro City from Manila on March 12. He was immediately admitted at the NMMC but he was discharged from the hospital prior to the release of his test result and underwent a 14-day home quarantine.

"Nag-uli sya sa ilang balay. Ma-discharge gani ka gikan sa balay, ipa-quarantine gyapon ka. Another 14 days," Dilla said.

"Dayon, pag-abot sa balay, gipa diretso gyud sya sa iyang kwarto. Wala gyud silay contact [with family members]. Dili gyud sya mogawas sa iyang kwarto, gi-lock man nila ang iyang kwarto," she added.

Dilla also reminded the public to stay at home, especially the elderly and people with co-morbidities.

"Ang ato ra gyung mahimo batok ani nga sakit is home quarantine, puyo sa balay. Kay duna kay simtomas, and then that's the time that you seek consult. Pero naa ra man ka sa balay, kung naa man sa imo ang sakit, gamay ra imo matakdan," Dilla said.

The 71-year-old man is one of the three new confirmed cases in Northern Mindanao. The other two are from Marawi City and currently admitted at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center.

The Kagay-anon had a travel history from Manila on March 7. He has pre-existing conditions, including hypertension, benign hyperplasia, and chronic cardiac diseases.
