THE Cebu City Government will release two months’ worth of financial assistance to 80,000 senior citizen residents. The cash aid covers March and April.

Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella said they tried to dispense P2,000 this March to help provide for senior citizens during the general community quarantine, but his request was not approved by the Commission on Audit.

The mayor aims to release the financial aid on April 1.

For this purpose Labella has formed an ad hoc committee headed by city administrator Floro Casas, Atty. Rey Gealon and Councilors Raymond Garcia, Niña Mabatid, Dondon Hontiveros and Joel Garganera.

According to the mayor, the Department of Health protocols including physical distancing will be strictly observed.

After the senior citizens, financial assistance for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) will follow.

Senior citizens and PWDs each receive P12,000 yearly from City Hall.

Senior citizen claimants will be required to present an identification card issued by the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs. (PAC / MMC)
