‘Focus crimes’ in NegOcc drop

THE eight focus crimes in Negros Occidental has dropped in the recent week.

The drop of 20 percent was noted from March 16 to 22 compared to the records from March 9 to 15.

The downtrend was observed following the implementation of the closure of boarders through the Executive Order 20-15 by Hon. Eugenio Jose Lacson, the Governor of the Province of Negros Occidental.

The incidents resulting from reckless imprudence or vehicular accidents have also decreased by 57 percent. The fall in the statistics is seen as a result of the significant decrease in motorists likewise the intensified presence of police officers on the streets as several restrictions were implemented as part of the government’s effort to prevent the spread of the infectious virus.

Despite being at the frontlines especially in manning the Quarantine Control Points (QCPs) in the five identified border locations in Negros Occidental, the police stations have intensified police operations. This resulted to the increase of police-initiated operations by 40 percent. These include implementation of special laws.

Nocppo director Colonel Romeo Baleros assures the public that while the PNP are focused at preventing the spread of Covid-19, law enforcement operations will not be set aside.

“We have enough policemen to ensure public safety and peace and order. The people need not worry, follow the advice of the authority and we will ensure their security”, said Baleros. (TDE)
