LGU provides ‘sustainable relief goods’ to Simonians

TO FURTHER encourage its constituents to avoid going out of their houses during the month-long lockdown, the local government of San Simon is stepping up its drive to provide food supply to every household via distribution of vegetable seeds.

According to Mayor Abundio “Jun” Punsalan, Jr., various vegetable seeds found in the “pinakbet” dish such as squash, green bean, okra and eggplant is being distributed to every Simonian family in a bid to provide a sustainable food supply even after the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak.

“We are calling this the ‘pinakbet package’ because the pinakbet is among the simple yet nutritious dish that is familiar to all Filipinos,” he said.

Punsalan added that he is trying to revive the Green Revolution launched in the 1960s across the world to increase the agricultural production of each country.

“In this time when all people are in their houses and have nothing much to do, we encourage them to plant some vegetables,” he said.

“After a few weeks, although we are hoping that the COVID-19 outbreak then, they can already harvest the vegetables and serve them to their families,” he furthered.

Aside from vegetable seeds, the local government is also distributing relief packs to residents to address the immediate need for food supply of families affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

Thousands of bottles of disinfecting alcohol were also given to every household to protect them from the deadly viral disease.
