Employers urged to process social amelioration of workers

THE General Alliance of Workers Association (Gawa), is urging employers to process the social amelioration of their workers who have been displaced due to work stoppage caused by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) concerns.

“Employers should certify immediately their workers who are in their payroll so they can avail of the amelioration program”, Sancho pointed out.

The labor leader also urged the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Western Visayas to conduct a massive information drive on the social amelioration program, which was made in response to the Covid-19.

Sancho said the Covid-19 Assistance Program will give a one-time cash incentive of P5,000 to the formal sector, who are affected by the shutdown caused by the community quarantine.

He also urged the local government units to inform those working on the informal sectors such as drivers of public utility vehicles, on how to avail of the “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced” aid package.

Sancho also suggested that the local government units should setup Labor Desks in order to cater for workers affected by the ongoing crisis. (TDE)
