POLICE manning a checkpoint seized 500 ampules of Nubain, a painkiller, from a 47-year-old man at the South Road Properties before 6 p.m. yesterday.
Celso L. Labiano, who hails from Biak-na-Bato, Castillano, Negros Occidental, was arrested and detained for alleged possession of Nubain ampules, a violation of Cebu City Ordinance 1427.
SPO2 Bestilio Dabatos, desk officer of Mambaling Police Station, told Sun.Star Cebu that the team of police operatives led by Insp. Gualberto Gabales flagged down the taxicab boarded by Labiano for inspection.
The police became suspicious when Labiano quickly handed over five small boxes to his 12-year-old companion.
The police checked the boxes and found the ampules inside.
Apart from the seized ampules, 100 other vials were also found.
Police are yet to determine the substance inside the other vials.
Dabatos said Labiano claimed that the ampules were to be delivered to an establishment in Iligan.
Police have yet to ascertain if the establishment is a pharmacy.
Labiano was reportedly headed to Pier 1 from Minglanilla, Dabatos said. (JTG)
