Benguet cops get creative in making residents stay home

BENGUET police serving as frontliners have found creative means in convincing residents to stay at home to prevent transmission of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

On Wednesday, March 25, in one of the designated checkpoints in Itogon, Benguet is a casket with a sign “Stay home or Stay here” was placed to deter useless travel.

Itogon Municipal Police Station chief Major Rommel Sawatang said the brown coffin serves as a message to the people to stay at home and prevent further transmission of the virus.

Sawatang said the inspiration of putting a casket was drawn from other towns in the country.

“We remind stakeholders of Itogon, as we witness what is happening to our country and other countries with recorded deaths due to Covid – 19, we put in place a casket along the checkpoint to discourage you from further going out. We are asking you to follow the directives of the local government and barangays officials,” he added.

Following the Covid-19 Task Force meeting in Itogon, he said strict schedule will be implemented for those going out their homes adding checkpoints are established in all barangays of the town.

In Benguet’s capital town of La Trinidad on the same day, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station installed nylon wires at La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post for stakeholders to observe at least one meter social distancing as precautionary measures for Covid-19.

Personnel were also deployed carrying a sign ‘Physical Distance, Please?’ asking disposers, buyers, traders, stakeholders at the trading post to observe proper distances.

In the northern town of Benguet, personnel of Mankayan Municipal Police Station continue to drumbeat the information education campaign relative to Covid-19.

“To all Mankayan folk, we continue to remind you of Covid-19 and that hopefully you will not be tired on us continuing to ask you to stay at home as that is for your own and for our sake,” the announcement thru a public address system said.

In the towns of Atok, Bakun, Buguias, Bokod, Kabayan, Sablan and Tublay, police personnel post “no mask, no gloves, no entry” asking stakeholders to observe physical distancing including market areas.

In Kibungan, municipal police place messages for stakeholders along checkpoint “rest at home or rest in peace” calling for the resident to stay at home and avoid getting infected with Covid-19.

In Tuba, frontliners continuously man quarantine control point to ensure that all drivers and passengers undergo mandatory thermal check.
